A Custom Home Remodel for The Ellen Show

Ellen… a true TV legend, comedian and, class act, and interior design and remodeling enthusiast. Working with HGTV’s Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri (hosts of multiple hit TV shows and friends of Ellen) allowed us to help design and build a kitchen Ellen gave away to a lucky guest in the studio during a show. The young family, just north of Seattle, Washington were the lucky recipients of a completely free kitchen remodel and the show asked us to fly up and build it! This took immense coordination – the project had to be completed in only five days!!

On top of that, our tools, equipment, and all the materials and supplies to put the kitchen together had to be shipped from Sacramento, where we had the whole project staged to ensure no product would get lost in shipping. This early 1900’s home posed some extreme challenges as the original water and waste pipes and the original electrical wiring were not up to code and needed to be removed and replaced. When it was all said and done – a very long five days produced this beautiful kitchen and laundry room and provided an experience we will never forget.

It was a truly awesome adventure!

A Custom Home Remodel for The AMDK Show - America's Most Desperate Kitchens

When HGTV producers approached us with an opportunity to work on another TV makeover show, we couldn’t have been more excited since Kitchen is something we specialize in. Our work was featured on three episodes over two seasons, allowing us to work with some highly unique products and take on some design work that we might not otherwise get a chance to do since we were given creative liberty to be bold and eclectic.

A few pictures below feature a custom brass island hood, accented under-counter cement tile with LED lighting, a 200-bottle custom glass wine enclosure, custom walnut cabinetry, and a modular rolling bar for entertaining guests. Hosts and real-life cousins Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri were a blast to work with!

A Custom Home Remodel for Kitchen Crashers TV Show

HGTV & DIY network’s Kitchen Crashers, hosted by Alison Victoria, was our first TV experience in home renovation. We quickly learned that TV show remodeling was not for the faint at heart. It required a highly skilled crew of tradesmen, a tremendous level of coordination and organization, and patience and hard work to boot. Our work was featured on multiple episodes over a few seasons and showcased unique designs and product installations. Below was one of our first genuinely custom creations designed from scratch and built in the K Squared shop: a pair of custom modern walnut chairs woven with vehicle seatbelt material for both the base and the backs! The dining table was also a custom piece built for the show. Dimensional “Heath Tile” gave a bold color pop to this modern kitchen, and the original knobs and pulls from the early 1950s allowed some of the home’s original charm to remain and compliment the Mid-Century Modern theme of the project. A big thanks to Alison, who still hosts TV shows for HGTV and the DIY networks – you are a true friend and highly talented designer, and we always look forward to seeing what project Alison is working on next in the ‘Windy City’.
