Kitchen Remodeling in Granite Bay
Kitchens designed and built from our office on Sierra College Boulevard, by the same team from the first measured drawing to the final walkthrough.

A Granite Bay kitchen of ours
The Granite Bay kitchen in our gallery has two islands, each four feet by ten. One is painted. The other is black walnut, designed and built by Rusty Krouse himself. The second carries a custom wine refrigerator and a built-in ice maker.
The hood is black iron and black walnut, designed and built by K Squared rather than specified from a catalog. Floating shelves in the same walnut tie the island and the hood together, and two different tiles run through the room.
That is the standard we hold a kitchen to: a decision made in one corner of the room is carried through every other corner, and the people who drew it are the people responsible for building it.
Settle how the room works first
The questions worth answering early have little to do with finishes. Where does everyone stand while the cook is working? Is the island a workspace, a place to sit, or both? Does the room need to serve an ordinary Tuesday and a full house, and what has to change between the two?
Those answers set the layout, and the layout sets the structural, plumbing and electrical work behind it. Countertops and cabinet doors are far easier to revisit than a wall, a drain or a gas line, which is why we settle the plan before the selections.
Permits go through Placer County
Granite Bay is unincorporated, so a kitchen permit goes to Placer County rather than a city building department. New finishes in the same footprint often need no plan review. Moving plumbing, adding circuits or changing a wall is a different matter, and removing a load-bearing wall means an engineered beam and posts shown on the permit set.
We prepare the drawings and handle the submittal as part of the job. A permit set that answers the reviewer's questions the first time protects the schedule more than anything that happens later on site.
Cabinetry sets the calendar
Cabinetry is usually the longest lead item in a kitchen, and a selection still open when construction starts is the most common reason a schedule stalls. Our design phase exists to close those decisions first: cabinets, countertops, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting and hardware, with 3D renderings so you can see the room before it exists.
By the time demolition begins, the materials are chosen, the drawings are complete and the sequence of trades is written down.
A price set before construction
Pre-construction runs about eight to sixteen weeks depending on complexity, and county review time sits on top of that. It ends with one proposal carrying the scope, the schedule, the allowances and a fixed price.
We do not print a kitchen figure on this page, because a figure without your house behind it would mean very little. Our cost guide explains what moves the number in this region, and a real budget range comes early, from measured drawings of your home.
Where to go next
Common questions
Do I need a permit for a kitchen remodel in Granite Bay?
If plumbing moves, circuits are added or a wall changes, yes, and it goes through Placer County. New finishes in the same footprint often need no plan review. We confirm what your project requires at the start and handle the submittal.
Can you take out the wall between our kitchen and living room?
Usually, once we know what the wall is carrying. A bearing wall needs a beam, posts down to a solid bearing point and an engineered detail on the permit set. We price it as structural work from the beginning so it never arrives as a surprise after demolition.
Who designs the kitchen?
Brenna Krouse is a licensed interior designer, and she and Rusty Krouse, a licensed general contractor, are both in the room for the first walkthrough. Design and construction stay with one team for the whole project.
How soon could construction start?
Pre-construction takes about eight to sixteen weeks depending on complexity, followed by county review, which varies. The time spent there is what allows the price and the schedule to hold.
